Reception

In Reception, we follow the Early Years Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, published by the DfES. This Framework specifies the requirement for learning and development in the Early Years and provides specific areas of learning we must cover in our curriculum.

These areas are:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language development
  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

There will be a strong focus on Literacy and Numeracy, ensuring children establish the basics to ensure they have firm foundations and academic success. Free Flow exploratory play is an important part of the weekly timetable. The amount of time allocated to this will reduce as we progress through the academic year.

Throughout their time in Reception, the children continue to develop a sense of belonging to our school community, ready to transition to Year 1 the following academic year. They have the confidence and skills to make decisions and self-evaluate, make connections and become lifelong learners.
